The cellular jail is also known as Kala Pani (black waters), during colonial-era prison was
used by the British exile political prisoners during India’s struggle for independence.
The prison, jail was built between 1896 and 1906, even though the island had
been used to imprison political activists. It consists total 696 prison cells.
